Canadian Churches and charities cannot get too directly involved in politics or supporting particular parties or candidates.

Since our leaders are elected, that makes it your individual responsibility before God to choose good leaders. One cannot pretend that God does not care who leads a country, province or city. One also cannot imagine that God will sovereignty override your choices when you and your neighbours vote for a wicked person or do not vote at all.

The height of deceit is to imagine that God will not hold you accountable for your responsibility in choosing your own civic leaders.

Let’s examine some verses from Proverbs, God’s book of wisdom.

Proverbs 14:34  Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Many Canadian leaders and cities are a reproach to God as a direct result of our bad choices for leadership. God cannot change the leaders if you refuse to be his hand. If no good leaders are running, find one to run and support them!

Proverbs 17:15  He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
Many are they that claim Christ and yet support the wicked. This is often party politics. Wicked leaders who push abortion, euthanasia, gay rights, etc enjoy no end of Christian support because of their party. Worse, good leaders who stand for righteousness, whom many Christians worked hard to elect face no end of attacks from “so called” believers. Even worse, when great leaders are found to run, Christian people do nothing and often don’t even vote. We should remove the wicked and exalt the righteous.

If you carefully read Prov.17:15 you will see that making way for the wicked to freely operate is an abomination to God. Proverbs 25:26  Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.

The last thing that good leaders need is to be surrounded by other elected people who are wicked.

Proverbs 25:5  Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Do you give way to the wicked? Do you believe the plans of the wicked are better than the plans of the righteous? I hope not. Sadly many Christians have higher confidence in a slick-talking secular humanist than a god-fearing Christian.

It is time we read and implement Proverbs in our Christian lives.

Matt 5:14  "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matt 5:15  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Luke 14:34  "Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?

Are you surrounded by those who preach that God is only interested in individuals, not cities, leaders or nations? Ignore them and watch the movie “Amazing Grace” on the life of William Wilberforce. You will be inspired to make a difference.

Should we influence our communities and our nation? Let scripture decide.
Matt 5:14  "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matt 5:15  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Mat 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (NKJV)

Good works! Hmmm. In addition to preaching the gospel, what good works has the Church done? Orphanages, Hostels, Schools, Universities, Hospitals, the abolition of slavery, opposition to abortion, adoption, feeding the poor, prison ministry, bringing the reformation, freedom and democracy. Not bad!

Luke 14:34  "Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?
Luke 14:35  It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. (NKJV)

Some believe that our nation belongs to Satan and we should turn it over, then attend to other business. Really? During the second world war, people gave in and helped Germany were called collaborators. If you feel that Satan and the anti-christ need your assistance in taking over what was perhaps once a Christian nation, you are not slowing corruption, you are helping it. Satan has lots of helpers. Satan does not need your help and neither does the anti-christ. Be light and salt instead!
